Diabetes is a disease that results in when the body does not
produce insulin or when it is not properly used. Insulin is a
hormone, which converts sugar, starch and other food in the
form of energy needed for your daily life. This disease that is
realized through the raised blood glucose level is
hyperglycemia. The disease has potential long-term
complications to affect all vital organs. It is hence too
important to learn to mitigate or control it. Recent statistics
now show that India has the world’s largest diabetic
population. Today, India has 25 million diabetic patients, more
than any other country, and the number is expected to rise to
35 million by 2010 and to 57 million by 2025!

Regulation of Blood Glucose
The Human Pancreas
The human pancreas, located below the stomach is having two
main functions:
1. Productions of pancreatic hormones help to regulate many
aspects of our metabolism through producing insulin, glucagons
and other hormones. These play an important role in maintaining
the sugar balance in our bodies.
2. Production of digestive enzymes that is necessary for
breakdown and absorption of food from the gut.
