Is Diabetes Causing Blindness Today
Can Diabetes Lead to Vision
Loss
There are a lot of different things that
we need to worry about whenever we have diabetes. For the
most part, individuals think that they need to regulate their
sugar in some way or another and this is certainly the
case. The fact of the matter is, however, there are
several different things that can happen to those with
diabetes. In fact, the cases of diabetes causing
blindness is actually the number one cause of vision loss in
the United States, affecting some three out of every 100,000
individuals. Those are really astounding numbers and need
to be looked into, especially if you're suffering from this
disease.
You might be interested in knowing how diabetes is causeing
blindness today. The problem is that many individuals
with diabetes have high blood sugar levels, even if they are
all in some kind of regulatory program. The retina is in
the back of the eye and is a part of the eye that is actually
damaged by this problem. It may also be increased if you
have a difficulty with hypertension or if you are
pregnant. It may also run in the family and if you have
family history of diabetes causing blindness, you might want to
talk to your doctor about the possibility of taking extra
precautions so you do not have the problem as well.
On a personal note, here is something that happened to me
which was rather interesting. My wife has a problem with
her thyroid which makes her have her blood tested on a regular
basis. One time she had her blood tested and found out
that she was prediabetic. Her sugar levels were a little
bit elevated but the doctor was not too worried about the
situation. My wife went on an all raw food diet in order
to help with some of the nodules that were on her
thyroid. To her surprise, her vision became blurry
whenever she was wearing her contact lenses. When I
mentioned this to her eye doctor he told me that she might have
been diabetic and changed that through her diet as this will
change your vision.
Of course, one of the best ways for you to deal with
diabetes causing blindness is to recognize the problem as early
in its development as you possibly can. This will allow
your doctor to treat it and to make sure that it doesn't
develop too far. At times, however, there is not anything
that can really be done about it and you may end up with
blindness regardless of what your doctor is able to do for
it.
If you are worried about blindness because of your diabetes,
the best thing that you can do is to lose some weight and make
sure that you eat the proper diet so that you can regulate your
sugar naturally. If you don't have the diabetes symptoms,
it is less likely that you will end up with vision loss as a
result of it.
