Simple and Easy Diabetic Friendly
Recipes
One of the most frustrating parts of getting diagnosed with
diabetes is having to overhaul your whole nutritional regiment.
But it doesn’t mean that everything you eat has to be devoid of
taste. There are a couple of ways you can turn a basic recipe
into a diabetic friendly recipe simply by switching its most
harmful ingredients; and this is exactly what I am going to do
today with one of the most popular desserts on the planet,
chocolate cake.
Diabetic Friendly Chocolate Cake Recipe
The classic chocolate cake recipe consists of eggs, chocolate,
butter and flour and the ingredient list would read as
follows:
4 Eggs
9oz Sugar
9oz Chocolate
9oz Butter
9oz Flour
But since these ingredients are not very diabetic friendly, we
will make a few modifications to the ingredient list. First of
all, you should go for brown sugar instead of regular sugar.
Brown sugar’s glycemic index is way lower than regular sugar’s
and using brown sugar lowers the chances of high blood glucose
complications.
As for the chocolate, dark chocolate is the way to go. A recent
study showed that not only dark chocolate is safe for
diabetics, but it also improves insulin response. This is great
news for diabetic chocolate lovers who often saw it as a
forbidden treat.
Margarine is a great replacement for butter. Butter is filled
with saturated fats and should be avoided by diabetes sufferers
by any means. Margarine contains a lot less fat and sodium than
butter and is a great choice for diabetics. Gluten free flour
should also be used instead of regular flour. Some type 1
diabetes sufferers are intolerant to gluten and it can
aggravate their condition.
Now all you have to do is mix the eggs with the brown sugar and
melted dark chocolate until you get a homogenous mixture. You
will then add the gluten free flour to the mix and stir it
until you get a liquid batter. Pour the dough into a baking pan
and put it in the oven at 200°C for 20 to 25 minutes. And
voila! You have a diabetic friendly chocolate cake that you can
enjoy with your whole family!
Now, who would’ve thought that you could have a delicious piece
of chocolate cake without having to worry about your blood
sugar level? There are plenty of alternatives to high sugar and
high fat ingredients that can make a major difference on the
glycemic index of a recipe and allow you to enjoy recipes that
would usually be strictly forbidden for people affected by
diabetes…
