Type 2 Diabetes and Rhinisitus
Type 2 Diabetes and Rhinisitus
Sufferers, Beware!
People with type 2 diabetes and
rhinisitus or common cold generally have harder time
controlling their condition since rhinisitus can increase the
stress in the body thus adding to the difficulty of diabetes
management. A patients with diabetes knows that when they
are stressed out, their blood sugar level rises and this is
also true when they develop common cold because the body needs
to defend itself from the virus and the heightened alert of the
immune system may make your diabetes condition worse.
This happens because the body sends out hormones to fight the
infection (viral) to help the body recover, however the problem
is that while the hormones may assist in your recovery and help
battle the cold, these same hormones makes it difficult for the
body to use insulin properly putting the diabetic patient in
greater danger.
If a diabetic patient is not careful when he or she has
rhinisitus and the blood sugar level becomes difficult to
manage, other serious medical condition may arise. For type II
sufferers, patients can develop diabetic coma (Hyperosmolar
hyperglycemic nonketotic coma) and other complications when the
sugar in the blood remains constantly high because of cold or
other illnesses. This is why it is important for patients
to understand how special their condition is and that even a
common cold should not be ignored because there is a greater
chance of the rise in blood sugar level. When a patient
with type II diabetes develops rhinisitus or a common cold, it
is important that the symptoms be addressed as early as
possible to avoid the added stress the body may undergo when
such symptoms are prolonged. Taking common cold
medications and rest and plenty of water will help a
diabetic recover from a cold more quickly. It is also
important to understand the importance of rest
so that the bodies stress levels can be reduced.
When a cold develops, diabetics must check their blood sugar
level every 3 to 4 hours to make sure that their level is
within the normal or safe level. Over the counter cold
medications can be used although patients must stay away from
liquid type medicines since most of these contain sugar.
Tablets or capsules are better alternatives for relieving cold
symptoms and discomfort in a person with diabetes. Type
II sufferers should be aware that they need to eat the right
amount of food regualarly to help in the management of their
symptoms, however when a cold develops they may not feel hungry
or do not have the appetite to eat regularly. This
can make them more susceptible to developing high sugar
blood levels. If your cold persists for any lenght
of time, we recommend that you consult your doctor to get
professional advice and attention.
Type II diabetes and rhinisitus is a condition that can
become a serious medical problem when not addressed properly,
but with the right knowledge and information patients can avoid
developing further complications brought on by common
cold. It is also important for type II diabetes sufferers
to be more careful with their hygiene to avoid catching cold
viruses. Please consult your doctor before embarking on any
medical treatment that may affect you diabetes.
